Astronomy Fundamentals SIG

  • Are you new to amateur astronomy?
  • Are you an experienced astronomer looking to learn something new?
  • Do you enjoy helping beginners?
  • Do you want to meet other TAAA members with similar astro interests?

If so, please consider joining the Astronomy Fundamentals Special Interest Group!

The AFSIG’s goal is simple: to help TAAA members enhance and expand their knowledge and enjoyment of astronomy through basic education and hands-on activities.

Some of the things we do:

  • Monthly meetings
  • Monthly get-togethers at the TIMPA star party
  • Education
  • Basic astronomy
  • Observing basics
  • Equipment selection and use
  • “How-to” workshops
  • Observing programs
  • Star party volunteer training
  • Eyepiece & Filter Loaner Kit
  • “Birds of a Feather” facilitation

The AFSIG meets on the second Thursday of each month for informal discussion and an educational presentation by an experienced amateur astronomer. We also hold other, more specialized observing events and workshops on a less regular basis. Contact us using the information below or check the TAAA newsletter for exact meeting dates and locations, as well as announcements of special events.
